Chris Anderson & Abiel on live KTRU - 1994

    CHRIS ANDERSON (Matrix)

    ABIEL (Matrix)

Some of you may have been around the Houston electronic music scene in the mid-'90s and perhaps had the pleasure of meeting Chris Anderson and Abiel Mejia, both part of the original Matrix Crew. These guys were seminal and an integral part of the rave scene and subsequent electronic music community.

Anderson hosted the first "live mix" show on KTRU, which later became "MK Ultra" under Sandeep's direction circa 1996. Matrix Crew hosted some of the first raves in Houston, which featured DJs mixing hard house, techno and jungle all night long.

Abiel was also a graphic designer who designed some of the most recognizable local rave fliers. He later became art director and worked alongside with me at newsweekly Public News before his passing in 1997.

I hope you enjoy these mixes. Consider it part of Houston's dance music roots.

Thanks to Bill Bradley for posting them on houstonbeats.com. I'm eternally grateful!

My pleasure Gracie. I've started a new thread with another mix. I'll post up more as they are finished.

You're welcome. Abiel was a big influence on me and a lot of other people. I remember just how surprised his parents were when so many people came out to pay respect at his funeral. I don't mean that in a bad way, I just mean that A LOT of people came out. Anyway, this is my way of paying respect again to Abiel and to let his legacy live on. RIP
